General Information

.**Temporary Road Closures

  • From 00:00hrs on 25th April to 24:00hrs on Sunday 26th April the A57 Ballyclare Road Templepatrick from Ballymartin Road to Paradise Walk roundabout and the slip roads to and from M2 motorway at Junction 5 will be closed to vehicular traffic. A diversion will be signed via A6 Antrim Road, A8M and A8 Ballynure Road.

  • A36 Shanes Hill Road, Larne / Road Traffic Regulation (NI) Order 1997 - Article 7

Notice is hereby given that A36 Shanes Hill Road, Larne will be closed to vehicular traffic and pedestrias from the junction

of A8 Belfast Road to a point approximately 600 metres east of that junction from Monday 19th January 2015 to facilitate ongoing major roadworks on A8 Belfast Road.

Larne bound traffic will be diverted via Deerpark Road (south)

Ballymena bound traffic will be diverted via A8 to Ballynure, A57 to Templepatrick, M2 Motorway (north) and A26 Lisnevenagh Road.

**Road Works - M2 Belfast bound off-slip at Junction 5 Templepatrick

Road works will commence shortly that will affect the M2 Belfast bound off-slip at Junction 5 at Templepatrick, which would be used by traffic going to Larne.

The off slip will be closed from 02/02/15.

The contractor will place a VMS sign between junctions 6 and 7. The wording can be altered as required but will state the following –

• JUNCTION 5 OFF SLIP CLOSED AHEAD
• FOR TEMPLEPATRICK / LARNE USE JUNCTION 6
• FOLLOW DIVERSION

The construction of the Belfast to Larne A8 Dual Carriageway scheme commenced in Autumn 2012 and is progressing at a steady speed. Traffic is now flowing on approximately 5km of newly constructed sections of road with speed restrictions of 40mph in place. Although there are fully trained traffic marshals patrolling the site on a daily basis to ensure there is a free flow of traffic at all times, customers travelling to the Port of Larne are advised to allow some extra time.

The completed works are on target for Spring 2015, and will provide an enhanced road to Larne Harbour, with shorter journey time from Belfast. The road will not feature any roundabouts, allowing for an uninterrupted journey of 14.5km.
